Harrison Fest, a new Jersey statewide multicultural celebration
The Harrison Fest celebrations started with the United Nations Queen Gala on Friday, September 15, 2017, had a Opening Day Mass On Friday, September 22, 2017 and a Grand Parade on Saturday, September 24, 2017 from Joseph Supor Blvd. down Harrison Avenue with United States Senator Robert Menendez attending for two consecutive years (he has been at Harrison Fest other years), and Grand Marshall Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari, Former Assemblywoman Joan Quigley (Harrison Fest 2017 National Godmother), Kearny Mayor Alberto Santos and other elected official and community leaders on the reviewing stand including Harrison Fest 2017 Honorees. After two days of Street Fair, with live music groups including several multicultural music and dance groups, variety of foods, kid rides and games, Harrison Fest 2017 closed at the main stage with Maxx Vega as Michael Jackson. The children and the adults loved it.

A huge thank you to the Men and Woman of the Harrison Department of Public Works, under the direction of Superintendent Robert Van Riper, that through their organization and hard work ensured that Harrison was kept clean and safe for its residents and the visitors who came to enjoy our community this weekend; safe with all the barriers through the streets, and other numerous tasks necessary for the Street Fair.
The Harrison Police Department, Hudson County Sheriffs, and the Harrison Crossing Guards, keep traffic flowing and helped maintain the safety of all who attended the Parade and Street Fair.
The Harrison Fire Department also was present with strategically placed fire engine equipment. The Harrison Firefighters also participate in Harrison Fest activities throughout the year volunteering to assist all of Harrison Fest's activities including Thanksgiving Turkey Drive, the December Holiday Party for Children and Parents with Santa Claus, and of course our United Nations Queen Gala, Harrison Fest Parade & Street Festival.

Harrison Fest parade
The Harrison Fest Parade is only the start of the festivities. Harrison Fest celebrates the various cultures new and old that make up the residents of Harrison. Here is a group of teenagers continuing the traditions of their parents by participating in a cultural dancing group. The costumes alone take hours of dedication to create but those hours are only superceded by the hours spent by these teenagers in practice and performance. Come join us in honoring Harrison's history and its diversity.

Each immigrant brings with him or her the American dream to prosper and make a better life for their children. The Irish, the Italians, the Polish, The Spaniards, the Portuguese, the Peruvians, The Dominicans, the Chinese, the Puerto Ricans, the Mexicans, the Ecuadorians, the Costa Ricans, the list goes on, but all sought the American Dream. In their local social clubs they honored their ancestors by teaching their children the values and culture of their forefathers while the children combine the best of both worlds as Americans. Harrison Fest allows those groups to showcase their culture through song and dance. Enriching all of us who watch culture expressed through song and dance.

Harrison Fest welcomes musicians and dancing groups to showcase their talents throughout our festival. Reservations are necessary but we welcome all groups who have a desire to express their culture at Harrison Fest and will comply with our guidelines.

The past
rich history
The Town of Harrison was founded over 175th ago. Located in Hudson County in New Jersey, Harrison was once know as the Beehive of Industry because the town's southern end manufactured all sorts of products including electronics and top secret munitions for WWI and WWII.

A Transition
The late Mayor Raymond McDonough had a vision to transform Harrison's rich industrial area into a modern addition to the Town of Harrison. The fruits of Mayor McDonough's vision and those who joined it has taken root and new housing, hotels, stores and sports facility have become reality.
